There are many types of animated videos depending on whether they are in 2D, 3D, combined with real images, based on templates, or custom-made. The software we use to bring graphics, logos, texts, or images to life is Adobe After Effects. In these examples, we show you different approaches:
Video based on real images combined with animations
This type of production gives us many possibilities. The presenter can interact with the animations, pressing suspended buttons, extending screens that appear and disappear, creating a whole virtual universe tailored to the consumer’s taste.
Some effects in this video might have caught your eye. For example, in the first few seconds, the presenter walks forward and we see the word “Identity” in the background. This text was inserted in post-production, and to make the human figure appear in front of the letters, a “rotoscoping” process was used. Although it may sound like a medical procedure, it actually means cutting out the image of the person onto a separate layer so it can be superimposed on the animation. For this, it’s essential that the clothing stands out from the background and that lighting and resolution conditions are optimal.
Video based on real images and After Effects template
For this piece, after working on the storyboard, we recorded various shots and took photographs that we combined with several After Effects templates. These templates are customized by changing colors, sizes, timings, etc., to suit the project, saving the client time and money. The voiceover was recorded in Spanish, and for the English version, Marabelia works with native translators and voice actors. No text appears in the video to facilitate language adaptation and to keep the door open to future versions in Italian, German, French, etc.

Video with animated typography
What if only the letters are animated? The effect is very hypnotic, whether narrated or not. Here it’s ideal to play with different fonts and colors, and synchronize the movements with the reader’s pace. Music is key to giving the whole piece meaning and rhythm.
Video with 3D animations
The elements we animate can also be 3D, as in this example. Specifically, these are templates that can be customized by changing size, colors, text, etc., but creating 3D elements from scratch can be more costly. [divider_space]
Great, I’m super excited! How do we get started?
First, let’s talk! Whether in person or via Skype. What are you trying to achieve? Is the video for a website, a screen in a waiting room, for television? What is your product or service, what are its advantages, what makes it different from the competition? What’s your budget?
With this information, we can start working and propose the best type of animated video for your project. The process begins with creating a storyboard. According to Wikipedia, it is “a series of illustrations displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing an animation, understanding a story, or following the structure of a film before production or filming.”
On paper, it’s easy to make changes to the script, animations, costumes, etc. Here we show you a snippet of the storyboard and the final result in the video.

Once the plan is agreed upon and approved by the client, production begins. This may include recorded footage or entirely computer-generated content. At Marabelia, we always show progress along the way to develop the project with client feedback and input, ensuring the final product is satisfactory for everyone.
