VALENCIA Editorial Team. February 2022
Marabelia is a digitalization agent cooperative from Valencia founded by two women, Isabel Blasco and Mar González, who met while studying Audiovisual Communication at the University of Valencia. In their final year, they worked together on a project about the demolition of the Cabañal neighborhood, and from that moment, they clicked both personally and professionally. At the time, Mar was working in the entrepreneurship department at IDEAS Institute at the University, and she asked Isabel if she wanted to collaborate on a show she was hosting. That’s how their journey together began.
– What does Marabelia do? –
Marabelia is a communication cooperative built on four pillars: websites, video production, marketing and SEO, and graphic design. We develop cutting-edge and customized digitalization projects in web design, graphic design, and video. We blend creativity and technology. We love to innovate and improve every day. We can create the corporate identity for the businesses our clients envision. We handle everything from website design and Google positioning to complete corporate communication management.
– How would you describe yourselves, and what sets you apart? –
What sets us apart is our client service. We’re a small digitalization agency, and our clients receive daily, highly professional, personalized service. Our phone is always open for questions or suggestions, and we truly care for them. Unlike big companies, we offer a more personal and agile relationship. Our creative and aesthetic vision is also a key differentiator—we create exclusive designs. For example, when we develop a website, we make sure it doesn’t resemble any other. Each site has its own charm and uniqueness, without sacrificing functionality. Our websites are robust, intuitive, and functional, but also delicate and detailed, tailored to each business type—be it a clinic or an industrial company.
– How did it all start? –
The seed for Marabelia was planted during our university years. We hosted a TV show where we interviewed entrepreneurs. Many of those businesses later asked for our services. That’s when we left our university jobs and started working on this project—first as freelancers, and later as a cooperative.
– Why did you choose the cooperative model? –
After getting advice from the Chamber of Commerce and FEVECTA, we decided that the cooperative model aligned best with our philosophy. We value horizontality and collective decision-making. Even though we are two partners now, we may grow in the future. FEVECTA was incredibly helpful, and with their support, we created the company. We received a grant for being mothers of children under two and rented offices near Valencia’s City Hall. This is now our fifth year.
– What are your professional backgrounds? –
We both have similar profiles. We studied Audiovisual Communication, but our education didn’t stop there. In our field, continuous learning is key. Technology is evolving at a breakneck pace, so we need to stay updated constantly.
– How are you handling the economic crisis? –
Working with freelancers has allowed us to be flexible and weather economic downturns. We have a very small company structure, and when we have a larger workload, we collaborate with photographers, videographers, and designers. We also frequently work with interns from both public and private institutions who complete their practical training with us—and they help us a lot!
– Which of your projects would you highlight? –
One standout is our work for Al vent, a wind instrument repair business run by a very meticulous artisan with a long waiting list. We built everything from scratch: logo, website, videos, roll-ups, infographics—you name it. Another client is the interior designer Laura Yerpes, for whom we manage SEO. She specializes in luxury renovations for villas and apartments. We also worked on a fascinating project with Child Sleep Care, a virtual learning platform for sleep coaching, which launched the first online academy in Spain to certify sleep coaches.
– Can you name some companies or institutions you’ve worked with? –
We’ve collaborated with institutions such as the University of Valencia, Polytechnic University of Valencia, University of Granada, the Valencia Provincial Council, and the Provincial Firefighters Consortium. The University of Valencia holds special meaning for us—we studied there, maintain a great relationship, and still work with them. We also got our start at the IDEAS Institute at UPV, and many of our current clients date back to that period. We’re especially grateful that this university entity strongly supports entrepreneurship.
– The ‘Made in Coop’ design sector was featured in the 2022 Pepe Miquel Awards for Valencian Cooperativism. What do you think of this recognition for cooperative design? –
We’re incredibly proud—both as designers and as cooperativists. We’re very pleased that the world of cooperative design is being recognized with this award.
– Looking ahead, where is Marabelia headed? –
Right now, we’re awaiting the potential addition of a new partner to help us grow. Their profile complements ours, but it’s a decision we’re carefully considering. It’s crucial to ensure personal and professional harmony. We’ve been working together for about 15 years, and now there’s a chance to expand. This could allow us to take on more ambitious projects and offer more services to our clients.
